My Lover’s Hoof
Removing mud, stones and twigs,
I clean out my lovers hoof
I work from heel to toe and pay
close attention
To the cleft around the frog
To the sensitive spots,
hidden amongst old bits of dirt
With delicacy I scrape and I carve
I work up a sweat,
almost satisfyingly
On all fours, until his all fours, all emptied out
I’m rewarded with a swift stamp
Swift but struck with great force
I’m cracked open, like a walnut
Oozing, re-dirtying his hoof
He awaits,
A chess piece anticipating
A new opposing player
For the opening move
For a clean out
