Dark Circles

Bats are to blame
for the dark circles beneath my eyes
for keeping me up at night
for staring at me from the ceiling wall

In preparation of a haunting fall
for hiding inside my tears
for making them seem bigger
for adding weight on thin skin

Shaping an upside-down exclamation mark
that life is uncertain
but death is sure
surely bats are to blame
